us Probiotics (good intestinal bacteria) can be very beneficial to
re-seeding the cecum and colon. However, you also need to treat the
bacterial environment and feed the bacteria themselves. I have found
success in using a product called EQUIZYME.
This is a high quality yeast culture containing enzyme enhancers, amino
acids (including DL Methionine), mineral micronutrients and buffering
agents. In addition, this product contains all necessary vitamins
including Biotin. Yeast products work better if the pH is adjusted. I have
been successful in preventing acidosis of the cecum and colon, as well as
growing a quality hoof wall corium, but using EQUIZYME. Colic cases should
always receive these yeast cultures for prevention of the problem.

In the past seven years, I have been using Equizyme in
my veterinary practice. For six years, I have been a strictly Equine
practitioner and have used Equizyme extensively. In this time, I have
developed the various ways to use the product with great success.
Equizyme is an all natural feed supplement that
contains four major and several minor enzymes as well as amino acids that
aid in the digestion of feedstuffs consumed by the horse. it is not a
probiotic as it contains no bacteria, although it is very good to feed
with probiotics. The enzymes and amino acids are a very stable
fermentation product of the yeast, Aspergillus oryzae, that are harvested
and placed on a bran flake. This is a natural production process rather
than synthetic. High quality enzymes and amino acids are the result and
these are utilized well by the horse. This is a big reason for the quality
feet, hair coat, eye and bone as well as all of the other high protein
demand tissues. These enzymes and amino acids in combination with
vitamins, mineral micronutrients and buffers, stimulate the growth of
beneficial cecal and colonic bacteria. It is this process that keeps
fermentation proper, therefore, the pH environment stays out of the acidic
range.
The diagnosis of acidosis of the cecum and colon
indicates that through poor nutrition, poor management and disease states,
the pH of the cecum and colon has decreased. This results in intestinal
irritability, therefore, hepatic (liver) toxicosis, poor digestion and a
predisposition to colic. We seem to prevent a lot of simple colics with
the regular daily use of Equizyme. When the digestive environment is
correct, all feeds are utilized more efficiently, and the outward
appearance of the horse reflects this, as seen particularly in the feet.
Growing feet on bad footed horses is always a topic of discussion. A
"by-product" of Equizyme usage are good feet. The reason
reflects back to the digestive aid ability of Equizyme. When the
environment of the cecum and the colon are correct, so will be the feet.
In addition, acids are all present to result in quality hoof corium. Most
noticeable is the "Equizyme Line" seen in the hoof wall as the
foot grows out. This is reflective of the quality corium tissues that are
created in the hoof. When coupled with proper foot balance and shoeing
practices, horses on Equizyme look and feel their best.
I practice in a known selenium deficient geographical
location. We formulated Equizyme to protect from selenium related diseases
with 2 mg of sodium selenite per 1 ounce serving. This can be manufactured
with more or less depending on your particular area.
Equizyme is a blood building conditioner and a
digestive aid needed and utilized by the Equine athlete as well as
maintaining brood stock. Equizyme is complemented by tow other products:
Hi Calcium major mineral (Ca source is oyster shell flour), and
Hi Phosphorus major mineral (P source is monosodium phosphate),
that can be added to the diet of individuals requiring additional
supplementation at the discretion of the veterinarian. Why is Equizyme
different from other similar products? The use of high quality feed
constituents, quality control in the manufacturing process, excellent
palatability and most importantly, the product positively affects the most
delicate but significant part of the horse, the digestive tract. It is
paramount for the veterinarian to apply these products within the
nutritional program of the individual horse or herd.

In the past twelve years, I have been using Equizyme in
my veterinary practice. For ten years, I have been strictly an Equine
practitioner and have used Equizyme extensively. During this time, I have
developed various ways to use the product with great success.
Equizyme is an all natural feed supplement that
contains the products of culturing the yeasts: Aspergillus oryze and
Saccharomyces cerevisiae, combined with a sulfated buffering system. These
highest quality trace minerals activate enzymes to help perform essential
functions in the body. this aids in the digestion of feed consumed by the
horse. It is not a probiotic as it contains no bacteria, although it is
very good to feed with probiotics. The amino acids area a very stable
fermentation product of the yeast culture that are harvested and placed on
a bran flake. This is a natural production process rather than a
synthetic. This is a big reason for the quality feet, hair coat, eye and
bone as well as all of the other high protein demand tissues. These amino
acids in combination with vitamins, mineral micronutrients and buffers,
stimulate the growth of beneficial cecal and colonic bacteria. It is this
process that keeps fermentation proper, therefore, the pH environment
stays out of the acidic range. I theorize the bacteria produced under the
more neutral pH will utilize these enzymes and amino acids and even
produce more. As well, there is the addition of high quality vitamins A,
D, E, and B complex. I practice in a known selenium deficient geographical
location. We formulated Equizyme to protect from selenium related diseases
with 2 mg of sodium selenite per 1 ounce serving.
The diagnosis of "acidosis of the cecum and
colon", indicates through poor nutrition, poor management and disease
states, the pH of the cecum and colon has decreased. The bacteria that
live in this acid pH are gas forming bacteria that do not ferment food
well.
this results in intestinal irritability, therefore,
hepatic (liver) toxicosis, poor digestion and a predisposition to colic.
We help prevent a lot of simple colics with the regular daily use of
Equizyme. When the digestive environment is correct, all feeds are
utilized more efficiently and the outward appearance of the horse reflects
efficiently and the outward appearance of the horse reflects this, as seen
particularly in the feet. Growing feet on a bad-footed horses is always a
topic of discussion. Stimulation of quality foot tissues is not just a
function of Biotin or Methionine (both of which are in Equizyme) but
rather a reflection of a healthy fermentative environment of the cecum and
colon. The reason reflects back to the digestive aid ability of Equizyme.
When the environment of the cecum and colon are correct, so will be the
feet. Most noticeable is the "Equizyme Line" seen in the hoof
wall as the foot grows out. This is reflective of the quality corium
tissues that are created in the hoof and can be seen above this line. When
coupled with proper foot balance and showing practices, horses on Equizyme
look and feel their best.
Equizyme is a blood building conditioner and a
digestive aid needed and utilized by the Equine athlete as well as
maintaining brood stock. Equizyme is complemented by two other products,
Hi Cal major mineral (Calcium source is oyster shell flour), and Hi Phos
major mineral (Phosphorous source is monosodium phosphate), that can be
added to diet of individuals requiring additional supplementation at the
discretion of the veterinarian. Phosphorus is very important as most
horses are deficient due to the excessive amount of Calcium from alfalfa.
Why is Equizyme different from other similar products? The use of high
quality feed constituents, quality control in the manufacturing process,
excellent palatability and most importantly, the product positively
affects the most delicate but significant part of the horse, the digestive
tract. It is paramount for the veterinarian to apply these products within
the nutritional program of the individual horse or herd as nothing is a
panacea.
We formulated a newer product called Equi-Flax.
This is composed of ground Flax Seed Meal, Equizyme and Monosodium
Phosphate. This product is designed for the use in Sport Horses, Catabolic
Horses needing to gain weight and Geriatric Horses. The Flax is rich in
the essential fatty acids Omega 3, Gamma Lineolenic Acid, and Omega 6,
Lineolenic Acid. These vital nutrients are like an oxygen magnet helping
in the transport of oxygen across cell membranes. As well, they are the
precursors for prostaglandins (hormone like, short lived substances which
regulate many functions of all tissues on a moment to moment basis). They
help regulate chromosome (DNA) stability, and help buffer excessive acid
or base (alkaline). The Monosodium Phosphate is an absorbable source of
phosphorus. I have been very pleased with the results of this product as
we feed it on a daily basis to all horses at Panorama Farm as well as the
veterinary case load.
